A new energy–efficient electric chiller van ideal for quick turnaround deliveries, is now available from the fast-growing Hireco Group.
The chiller van, with a range of up to 120 miles, is particularly useful for delivery of food (fresh and frozen), pharmaceuticals, microbreweries and bakery products. Local authorities have also seen the potential of the chiller van.
Pete Smith, Group Sales Director, says: “Our customers know they have a responsibility to reduce their carbon footprint and that means embracing the use of electric vehicles.”
He added: “Running electric gives our customers lower running and maintenance costs.”
Hireco is reporting strong interest to its new chiller van, especially from the food (fresh and frozen), and pharmaceutical sectors and craft companies such as microbreweries and bakers. There has also been keen interest from local authorities.
The chiller van is based on the LDV EV80 model and is fully charged within 1.5 hours with a 40kW DC charger. The van has a load capacity of 1000kg and a capacity of 6.3 cubic metres.
“The van uses a combined charging system and fully charged within 1.5 hours with a 40kW DC charger. The van has a load capacity of 1000kg and a capacity of 10.5 cubic metres. As well as the low maintenance needs, the chiller van offers the benefit of a regenerative battery.
Hireco is encouraging take-up of the new van with attractive rental and finance packages.
Mr Smith said the new chiller van was part of a solutions-led approach by the Hireco Group to give operators reassurance about easy charging.
Said Mr Smith: “Our customer focus is to not just to provide our customers with vehicles but to provide give them with a new electric solution which comes with its own charging package.”

Hireco was also able to give reassurance to transport operators who might also be concerned about breakdowns given the maximum range. Mr Smith said Serviceco, Hireco’s dedicated maintenance division, was able to manage the complete process, working direct with LDV Assist and LDV Motor Rescue.
Further reassurance comes through a downloadable App showing charging points on a particular route.
Mr Smith added: “Customer feedback is that the new chiller van will give operators a new versatile addition to their fleet in time for the build up to Christmas and beyond.”
