UK technology company Passenger has worked with Scottish bus operator Xplore Dundee to deliver a new mobile app with a range of features to ensure users can travel with confidence.
The app, developed by the creators of the highest-rated travel bus apps in the UK, includes mobile ticketing, journey planning, disruption notifications, live bus tracking and enhanced vehicle information including real-time occupancy for social distancing measures.
The app includes a contact-free online verifications service for age-restricted tickets, provided by Passenger. Currently, Xplore Dundee offers Child, Young Scot, and Student tickets for a number of educational establishments in the area including the University of Dundee.
Xplore Dundee has been the principal bus operator in Dundee City since 1921, operating a fleet of around 100 buses. Christine McGlasson, Managing Director for Xplore Dundee said “We’re delighted to be starting 2021 by launching a brand new app. Our customers need up-to-date information and the right tools to confidently plan their travel during these challenging times. Passenger has worked quickly to deliver an app that we all hope will help keep our users choosing to travel by bus whenever they can”.
McGill’s Buses purchased Xplore Dundee from National Express West Midlands in December 2020, making McGill’s the UK’s largest independent bus operator, with a fleet of over 500 vehicles. McGill’s also has a Passenger premium app, having worked with Passenger since 2018.
To ensure a smooth transition for users of the current Xplore Dundee app, Passenger has managed a seamless migration of all active tickets from Xplore Dundee’s previous app provider to Passenger Cloud.

The Xplore Dundee app, like all Passenger products, will continue to be improved through an ongoing programme of development and updates. The app is available to download on iOS and Android now.
