SAICA Paper, one of Europe’s largest recycled paper producers, has commended high standards of service and strong focus on continuous improvement at Menzies Distribution Solutions (formerly Bibby Distribution) after extending its contract with the company for a further three years.
The new agreement will see Menzies continue to oversee the transportation of goods into and out of SAICA’s mill in Manchester, UK until 2024. Additional volume has been included as part of the latest agreement, with a fleet of more than 100 trucks and trailers available to work on the contract as demand dictates.
SAICA Paper’s UK Logistics Manager, Chris Johnson, said: “Our two companies have a long and successful working relationship. The service we receive is always of the absolute highest standard. The excellent on-site team runs the day-to-day activity and makes sure our customers receive the level of service they have come to expect from SAICA.
“The management team focuses on key projects and helps us explore new ways we can improve our processes, such as the health and safety of our operation. They go far beyond what you would expect from a traditional 3PL. This forward thinking and proactive approach has helped us meet many targets and objectives over the years and also allowed us to make significant cost savings in the process.”
SAICA Paper and the former Bibby Distribution first started working together in 2011. The logistics specialist also runs the operation at the manufacturer’s Hartlepool site and the relationship has expanded into other parts of the SAICA Group over the years, including SAICA Natur, the waste management and environmental services business, and SAICA Pack, the corrugated cardboard specialist.
In total, Menzies Distribution Solutions is now transporting and processing around 435,000 tonnes of paper reels per year for SAICA to packaging manufacturers across the UK. It also collects roughly 290,000 tonnes of waste from other sites that SAICA then recycles into paper reels.

SAICA Group is one of the largest European players in the development and production of recycled paper for corrugated board, with a production of 3.2 million tonnes of recycled paper.
