Innovate UK is the UK government’s innovation agency, part of UK Research and Innovation.
Since 2007, it has invested £2.5bn to help businesses to innovate, with match funding from industry taking the total value of projects to £4.3bn. It has helped 8,500 organisations create 70,000 jobs and added £18bn of value to the UK economy.
Funding decision are made after bidding competitions focused on specific sectors with energy, engineering, R&D, disruptors and digital often being on the list. Money from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) is distributed in grants via Innovate UK.
Transport-specific funding streams include the Faraday Battery Challenge and Catapult Centres
Depending on the project, funding applications are open to business, academic institutions, charities, public sector organisations and research/technology organisations (RTO).
