West Yorkshire-based Coach Multimedia Systems has announced the first retrofittable, compact, ceiling-mounting, air filtration and disinfection system for the transport industry.
It is also the only filter system currently undergoing Phase II Covid-19 trials.
The unit, designed to be mounted on the ceiling, or under the parcel shelf, of passenger vehicles, aggressively kills 99% of viruses and bacteria, says MD Andy Baxter.
“Unlike traditional systems, our system does not rely on UV-C light alone – it deploys two additional patented technologies,” says Andy Baxter.
A Class13 HEPA filter includes an integrated carbon filter to reduce odours. The unit also has an integrated fire & carbon monoxide alarm.
The unit is compact and powerful – but quiet when it needs to be, he adds: “We have incorporated the latest fan technology in the unit to achieve a maximum CADR of 206CFM (350m3/hour). Each unit can clean a volume of 150m3, 2.5 times every hour.”
Additionally the unit enables reduced “fallow time” between journeys, as it minimises the time it takes to neutralise the air in the vehicle before cleaners are allowed to enter the saloon.

It is the only filter system currently undergoing Phase II Covid-19 trials, says Andy Baxter: “It is actively being used in the Covid wards of one of the top 10 clinical hospitals in the world and is currently being clinically tested for its effectiveness against Covid-19.”
Giving staff and customers peace of mind, the unit also has a variety of in-built high-precision sensors measuring particulate concentrations and pollutant levels. These can be displayed real-time via an App, on entertainment screens and in the crew area.
