Having taken delivery of a new purpose-built Tourismo three weeks ago, west Ireland operator Scales Coaches’ boss Joe Scales admits that he hasn’t actually seen it because it has been out on the road touring with customers flying in to from North America.
It’s a positive sign that in spite of travel restrictions into the States, there is still an appetite for Americans to visit Ireland.
The luxury touring coach for Scales’ inland and coastal tour programmes was ordered at the back end of 2019 and originally due for delivery in March 2020.
Then COVID hit and with Brexit also complicating matters, it was parked at the Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Sales & Service Partner, M50, in Dublin until recently.
The new Tourismo 12M is supplied with an OM 470 engine and a 6-speed ZF gearbox. The steering wheel is leather with mocha oak inlays and the 49 Luxline seats are upholstered in Lumo silver/grey. The vehicle was supplied by Mercedes-Benz Coach Sales at EvoBus (UK) and was prepared for delivery to the customer by M50 of Dublin.
Based in Ennistymon, County Clare, Scales Coaches is a luxury private hire operator with over 50 years of experience.
Started by Tom Scales in 1970, the business is now in the hands of his son William and grandson Joseph who fully embrace the guiding principle of “providing the very best in passenger transport with the highest quality fleet of vehicles and customer care to match”.
