Zhengzhou City will put 200 autonomous vehicles into operation in 2021 in a partnership between Yutong Group and smart travel firm WeRide.
As the leading commercial vehicle group and leading bus brand, Yutong is a world leader in autonomous driving. WeRide is the first autonomous-drive company in China and the second in the world.
Currently, Yutong autonomous drive vehicles have been operated over 700 days in Zhengzhou, taking passengers safely over 360,000km.
Initially, 10 autonomous buses and 10 autonomous cars will operate between the CBD, financial center and Zhengzhou East Railway station.
“We expect to operate 200 autonomous vehicles in the first half of 2021, to build the biggest and most advanced 5G autonomous drive pilot zone,” says Niu Ruihua, deputy secretary of the CPC Party committee and director of the management committee of ZhengDong New District.
Yutong autonomous mini Robobus updated to support 5G remote drive
In terms of functions, Yutong mini Robobus not only have normal Level 4 autonomous driving functions such as super cruise, dynamic obstacle avoidance, autonomous overtaking and accurate parking, but also can auto park, auto recharge and drive remotely.
This improves route efficiency, reduces accidents and gives passengers a comfortable ride.
Yutong autonomous mini Robobus adopts new design concepts, which perfectly integrate aesthetics and technology, and where visual recognition is especially prominent.
The side walls are 2/3 glass front and rear, providing a panoramic view.
The intelligent voice interaction and navigation system in the bus enables users to communicate information and control common functions with the vehicle by voice.
WeRide, established in 2017, is a smart travel company which holds advanced Level 4 autonomous drive licences.
It is the first autonomous drive company who receives both global leading car manufacturers (Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi union) investment and global leading bus manufacturer (Yutong) investments. Yutong has invested $200m into WeRide, who has finished the B1 financing.
It is the first company in China and the second in the world to be allowed to conduct autonomous drive road tests.
It launched the Robotaxi service which has operated in Guangzhou China. It has safely completed 147,128 trips with over 60,000 service users in the first year without any active accidents.
